The set follows a full year at a magical school, so kids can pick a favorite character, creature or place.
Fans can start with the famous boy in round glasses. He flies on a broomstick, opens a storm of letters, blows out birthday candles and stands by a Christmas tree. In addition, you will find the brave trio, a book loving witch, a chess champion, a dreamy girl with quirky glasses, a gentle giant with a baby dragon and a happy house elf waving a sock.
Animal lovers get plenty to color too. A snowy owl delivers the post, three owl friends share a branch and a fluffy cat sits on a pile of books. Meanwhile, a baby dragon hatches, a hippogriff takes a bow and three plant babies peek out of their pots.
One page shows all four house shields together. Then, a brave lion, a kind badger and a clever eagle each get their own page, and a friendly snake in a wizard hat completes the set.
Next come the enchanted items. Kids can color a twisty wand, a glowing spell book, a smiling sorting hat, a winged golden ball, an hourglass necklace, an invisibility cloak, a crystal ball, a secret map and a bubbling potion cauldron.
Finally, the castle pages bring the school to life. You will see the express train, a hidden platform, moving stairs, talking portraits, a cozy common room, floating candles and a spooky Halloween feast. There are also cheerful seasonal pages, from a snowy day to a wizard sleepover.
The story began in the UK in 1997 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. According to Britannica, J.K. Rowling wrote seven novels between 1997 and 2007, and eight films followed from 2001 to 2011.
In the United States, the first book arrived in September 1998 as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Today, Scholastic reports more than 600 million copies sold in 85 languages. In fact, Guinness World Records lists Harry Potter as the best selling book series for children.
That huge fan base explains why wizard pages stay so popular. Kids who love the books can color their favorite scenes, while younger fans meet the magic for the first time.
Most pages use thick lines and big shapes, so they suit beginners. Some scenes add lots of candles, books or furniture, which take more time.
Easiest picks: Winged Golden Ball, Smiling Sorting Hat, Foamy Magic Mug, Baby Dragon Hatching, Magic Crystal Ball and Friendly Wizard Snake
Busiest picks: Halloween Pumpkin Feast, Floating Candles Feast, Cozy Common Room, Wizard Sleepover, Wizard Friends Holding Hands and Moving Portraits
Start with an easy page for a quick win. Then, move to a busy page when you want a longer, calmer session.
Preschoolers from about 3 to 5 do best with the easiest pages and chunky crayons. The creature and object pages have big, simple shapes.
Kids from about 6 to 10 can handle most of the set. Many of them already know the stories and love coloring their favorite characters.
Older kids, teens and adults can enjoy the busiest scenes with sharp colored pencils or gel pens. Feast tables, candles and stone walls make a relaxing challenge.
House colors make these pages pop. In the books, each house has its own pair of colors.
Lion house: scarlet and gold
Snake house: green and silver
Badger house: yellow and black
Eagle house: blue and bronze in the books, while the films switched to blue and silver
Use those pairs on scarves, robes and the house shields. For magic effects, try glitter gel pens on wand sparks, soft yellow for candle glow and deep purple for night skies.
Crayons cover big backgrounds fast. Colored pencils handle small stars and candles. Markers give bold color, but they can bleed, so test them on the back of the page first. Our comparison of crayons, colored pencils and markers explains which tool fits each job. Also, our guide on how to color with colored pencils shows simple layering steps for smooth shading.
Printing takes less than a minute. Follow these steps for clean, centered pages.
